600 Acres Added for Future Projects
The company has secured an additional 600 acres of contiguous land, enhancing its potential for future industrial developments within the core of the project.
Situated in the Westport area along FM 156, between Fort Worth airport and the Intermodal Facility, this new acquisition boosts the company’s future industrial development capacity to more than 36 million square feet across Tarrant and Denton Counties. It also strengthens its capability to provide extensive logistics, manufacturing, and aviation sites adjacent to the newly expanded runways at the Airport.
The city’s strategic plan includes increased acreage for future industrial projects, aiming to boost local economic growth and job creation. This expansion is expected to attract a diverse array of businesses, fostering innovation and providing significant employment opportunities to the community.
“This acquisition stands out as one of the most important in the location’s history,” stated Tony Creme, senior vice president. “With the ongoing growth of the airport and the Intermodal Facility, this new property in westport will act as a crucial link between these essential logistics centers, delivering unparalleled connectivity and strategic benefits for our clients.”
Westport is centered around the intermodal facility, which provides both domestic and international service. It features direct routes to Mexico and faster transit times to the west coast ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Utilizing cutting-edge technology, the Intermodal Facility currently handles volumes comparable to some of the largest ports in the U.S.
Fort Worth airport has recently finished extending its runways, extending them to 11,000 feet at the northern end of the airport. The $250 million project received funding from the FAA, TxDOT, Tarrant County, and the City of Fort Worth. This expansion has significantly boosted the airport’s air cargo capacity, allowing for direct flights to all major global markets. Additionally, it enables long-haul flights to depart with maximum cargo and fuel capacity, regardless of weather conditions.
Westport currently features over eight million square feet of industrial and aviation development, including major logistics facilities for UPS. Together with the intermodal facility, these hubs provide westport customers with exceptional access to rail, highway, and air shipping options, all within a one-mile radius. The strategic location offers immediate connectivity to Interstate 35W and proximity to the FedEx Express Air and Ground hubs, making it an ideal spot for manufacturing and distribution companies looking to minimize supply chain costs and enhance market speed. Additionally, westport benefits from comprehensive workforce recruitment, training, and retention resources available through the Workforce Center and Tarrant County College’s Corporate Training Center and Center of Excellence for Aviation Transportation and Logistics (CEATL). Businesses also have access to Foreign-Trade Zones and on-site customs services, further streamlining and cost-effective international shipping.
Plans have been unveiled to establish the innovation zone, a state-of-the-art center dedicated to advancing mobility technologies. The initiative aims to bring together key partners, including major corporations, future clients, policymakers, regulators, entrepreneurs, and academic institutions, to foster the development, testing, scaling, and commercialization of cutting-edge mobility solutions. With its extensive multimodal infrastructure, the site is uniquely equipped to facilitate the testing of both aerial and ground-based technologies for transporting goods and people. This integrated environment will support innovation in transportation technology within a fully contained setting, enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of future mobility solutions.
As it marks its 30th anniversary, the expansion of westport highlights the ongoing commitment to advancing development in response to rapid land absorption. This new acquisition will enable the company to maintain its dynamic speculative building program in the westport area and provide customized build-to-suit sites for industrial and aviation clients with specialized facility requirements. Moreover, this development ushers in a new phase of growth near the original site where the project was launched three decades ago.…
